Quality Assurance
Biotronic NeuroNetwork is committed to consistently providing neural monitoring of the highest quality. We have found this to be a challenging task; yet, we have developed structures and procedures that assure compliance with our clinical procedures. These include our proprietary competency program, neural monitoring technologist supervision with documentation, and systematic chart review.
In 1999, Biotronic instituted a comprehensive credentialing program in neural monitoring, which we use as a guideline for clinical staff training and for certification of the clinical skills of our existing staff. Our competencies are sub-divided into areas of specialization. Currently, there are 16 competencies to be mastered in the areas of basic science competencies, clinical competencies, and modality-specific monitoring competencies.
Each neural monitoring technologist is required to demonstrate his/her mastery of knowledge in each competency and demonstrate his/her neural monitoring skills under direct supervision. The competencies of each neural monitoring technologist are then maintained in a clinical database. Each surgery that is scheduled with our organization is assigned the skills necessary to monitor that surgery. A neural monitoring technologist who has mastered the required competencies is assigned to that surgery. Our staff members are not allowed to monitor surgeries for which they have not demonstrated the required competencies to perform each modality of monitoring associated with a particular surgery.
Continuous standardized peer Chart Review process affords us the opportunity to critically analyze the quality of our clinical work and the compliance of our staff with our established procedures and protocols. Neural monitoring technologists receive verbal feedback as well as a written document based on chart review regarding any deficiencies or deviations in clinical performance. These documents are maintained in the neural monitoring technologist's personnel file. Results of the chart review are summarized and stored in Biotronic's clinical database.
